HAINICA MAGAZINE
Privacy & Cookies Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Who is responsible
Hainica Magazine is operated by Ned Quintana in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This policy applies to hainicamagazine.com and personal information handled through its website and related correspondence. Privacy questions, requests and complaints should be sent to ned@hainicamagazine.com.
Information collected and its purposes
- Comments: the details submitted in the comment form, comment text, IP address and browser information are processed to publish approved comments, moderate discussions and detect spam.
- Contact and editorial submissions: available forms and email correspondence provide the names, contact details, messages and attachments you choose to send. These are used to respond, assess submissions, arrange editorial work and maintain the related correspondence.
- Technical records: hosting and website infrastructure may record IP addresses, browser and device information, requested pages, access times and errors to deliver the website, diagnose problems and address misuse.
- Authorised accounts: WordPress stores account identifiers, profile information and authentication-related records for people authorised to manage or contribute to the website.
- Operational records: backup and email-logging tools may retain copies of site data and records of outgoing messages, including recipients, message details and delivery information according to their configuration.
We limit collection to information reasonably needed for these purposes. Please avoid sending identity documents, medical details, financial information or other sensitive material unless it is necessary for a specifically discussed request.
Consent and communications
We explain relevant purposes when requesting personal information and seek consent where required. Sending us a message or leaving a comment does not, by itself, subscribe you to promotional communications or authorise publication of private correspondence.
You may withdraw consent for optional uses by contacting us, subject to applicable obligations and reasonable notice. Withdrawal does not undo processing already lawfully completed. If a use materially changes, additional notice and consent will be provided where required.
Any promotional subscription offered will identify the sender and provide a way to unsubscribe in accordance with applicable requirements.
Public comments and submissions
Approved comments, the submitted display name and any displayed avatar can be visible to other visitors and search engines. Email addresses entered in a standard comment field are not intended to be displayed as part of the comment.
Do not include private information about yourself or other people in the comment text. Private correspondence remains separate from material expressly submitted for publication. Editorial confidentiality, anonymity, attribution and publication permissions should be agreed before sending sensitive material; a general contact form is not a secure confidential-source channel.
Cookies explained
Cookies are small files saved by your browser. They can maintain a session, remember a preference or support a third-party feature. Similar technologies may store preferences locally in your browser.
- Essential functions: authentication, site operation, security and storing cookie choices may require cookies or similar records.
- Optional preferences: if you choose to save comment details, WordPress can remember your name, email address and website for approximately one year.
- Login functions: WordPress normally uses a temporary cookie to test browser support, login cookies lasting two days, display-preference cookies lasting one year, and a two-week login period if “Remember Me” is selected. An editing cookie normally expires after one day. Configuration may affect these periods.
- External content: videos, social content, profile images and other embedded services may introduce additional technologies under their providers’ policies.
The site has CookieAdmin installed for cookie preference management. Where displayed, use the banner or preference control to review available choices.
You can also delete or block cookies through your browser. Blocking essential cookies can prevent login or other functions. Acceptance of this policy is not a substitute for any consent required for optional tracking.
Service providers and sharing
Information may be handled by authorised contributors and service providers as needed for hosting, website maintenance, forms, email delivery and logging, backups, security and spam filtering.
Akismet is active for comment spam filtering and may receive comment content and associated technical details. Where Gravatar profile images are enabled, an email-derived identifier may be shared with that service. An identifier derived from an email address should not be treated as guaranteed anonymous information. See Automattic’s privacy policy for information about these services.
We do not sell or rent contact lists or private correspondence. Disclosure may also occur where required or permitted by applicable law, including legitimate legal requests and protection against unlawful activity. We seek to limit each disclosure to what is necessary.
External websites and embedded content
Following a link or interacting with embedded content may send information to another provider, including your IP address, browser details and interactions. A provider may associate those interactions with an account you hold if you are signed in. Its own policies govern its independent processing.
Links do not mean that Hainica operates or controls the external service. Review that service’s privacy information before supplying personal data.
International processing
Website, email, backup and embedded-service providers may process or store information outside Ontario or Canada. Information processed abroad may be subject to local laws and lawful access by authorities.
Contact us for information about the providers and locations relevant to your request; we will supply the information reasonably available to us.
Uploaded files and images
Files may contain personal information in their content or metadata, including image location data. Remove unnecessary metadata before submission. Material made publicly available can be downloaded and copied by others.
Sending a file does not transfer ownership of its copyright; any permission to publish is addressed separately.
Retention and deletion
Different records serve different purposes. WordPress comments and their metadata can remain stored indefinitely unless removed. Account data is retained while the account is needed and for any justified period afterwards.
Correspondence and submissions are retained for the related request, editorial work, records management and applicable obligations. Technical, security and email records are retained according to operational needs and configuration.
We review whether information remains necessary and delete or de-identify it when no longer required. Legal obligations, unresolved disputes or security investigations may justify longer retention.
Deletion from active records may not immediately erase backup copies; those copies remain subject to access restrictions and the applicable backup cycle. We do not promise immediate removal of independent copies held by search engines or other people.
Security and privacy incidents
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including restricting access to authorised purposes and maintaining website security. No online system can guarantee complete security.
If a privacy incident occurs, we will assess it, take appropriate containment and corrective steps, and make notifications and reports required by applicable law.
Your requests and complaints
You may request access to personal information we hold about you, correction of inaccuracies, deletion where available, withdrawal of applicable consent, or information about its use and disclosure. WordPress export and erasure functions may assist with relevant records.
Contact ned@hainicamagazine.com, explain the request and identify the account, comment or correspondence involved. We may request proportionate identity verification, without collecting unnecessary identity documents.
Requests are assessed under applicable law; some information may be withheld or retained to protect other people, comply with obligations or preserve relevant records. We will explain applicable limitations.
Where PIPEDA applies to an access request, its response deadlines apply, including the usual 30-day period and any permitted extension. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or another competent privacy authority.
Children and young contributors
Where a child cannot provide meaningful consent, appropriate parental or guardian consent is required before collecting information beyond what is reasonably necessary to address a request.
Young contributors’ privacy, maturity and publication permissions will be considered. We do not request children’s sensitive information through general public comments. A parent or guardian may contact us about information a child has submitted.
Updates
We may update this policy to reflect changes in practices or applicable requirements. The date identifies the latest version. Material changes will be communicated appropriately, and additional consent sought where required; continued browsing alone does not authorise a new use requiring consent.
HAINICA MAGAZINE
Website Terms & Community Rules
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Scope and contact
These rules govern use of Hainica Magazine’s website, comments and material submitted for publication. They do not replace the Privacy & Cookies Policy or any separate written publishing, service or purchase agreement. Questions may be sent to ned@hainicamagazine.com.
Responsible participation
Use the website lawfully and respect other people’s privacy and rights. Do not submit threats, harassment, discriminatory abuse, unlawful content, defamatory allegations, spam, impersonation, malicious files or unauthorised personal information.
Do not attempt unauthorised access, disrupt the website or misuse accounts. Criticism and disagreement are welcome when expressed responsibly.
Moderation
Comments and submissions may be reviewed before publication. We may decline, edit for presentation where appropriate, remove or restrict material that breaches these rules or creates a legitimate editorial, legal, privacy or security concern.
Moderation does not guarantee that every item has been independently verified. Where substantive editorial changes are proposed to a contributor’s work, publication arrangements should be confirmed with the contributor.
Copyright and permission
Rights in articles, photographs, illustrations, logos and other material belong to their respective rights holders. You may link to our pages and use material where applicable law permits.
Reproduction, commercial reuse or adaptations requiring permission must be authorised by the relevant rights holder. Credits should remain accurate. Friggen Art Collection is an editorial collection credit and does not transfer ownership or grant a general reuse licence.
Contributor submissions
Submit only material you have the right to provide, including any necessary permissions concerning photographs, identifiable people and third-party works. You retain your rights unless a separate agreement provides otherwise.
Posting a comment permits the processing and display reasonably needed to host and moderate it. Editorial submissions will be considered for publication; submitting does not guarantee acceptance, payment or publication.
Publication rights, attribution, fees and any exclusivity must be agreed separately. Confidential information and unpublished manuscripts are not available for unrelated reuse merely because they were submitted.
Editorial standards and corrections
News reporting, commentary, advertising and artistic material should be distinguishable. Claims about identifiable people and organisations require appropriate verification.
Paid promotional arrangements should be identified where applicable; payment is not evidence of independent editorial endorsement.
To request a correction or raise a privacy or rights concern, provide the page address, disputed passage or material, your explanation and any supporting information. We will review the concern and respond appropriately. Significant factual corrections should be identified clearly.
External services and availability
Third-party websites, event organisers, stores and publishing platforms operate under their own terms. A link or mention does not establish an official partnership or guarantee a provider’s service.
Event details and external offers may change; consult the relevant organiser. We may update or temporarily suspend website functions for maintenance, security or operational reasons.
Information and legal rights
General editorial material is provided for information and discussion. It does not create an individual professional-advice relationship.
These rules do not exclude non-waivable legal rights or remove responsibilities that cannot lawfully be limited. If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions apply to the extent permitted by law.
Changes
Updated rules will be posted with a revised date. Material changes affecting existing agreements or permissions will be handled in accordance with applicable law and the relevant agreement.
HAINICA MAGAZINE
Donations & Direct Sales Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
This policy covers voluntary support and purchases made directly through Hainica Magazine. The magazine is operated by Ned Quintana in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
For payment enquiries, cancellations, delivery issues or refund requests, contact ned@hainicamagazine.com.
1. Donations and voluntary support
Recipient and purpose
Each fundraising or support page must identify the legal recipient before payment. Contributions made directly to Hainica Magazine support its editorial work and disclosed operating activities.
A campaign supporting another organisation must identify that organisation, the campaign purpose and whether contributions are received directly by the beneficiary or collected and transferred by an intermediary.
Voluntary contributions
Contributions are voluntary. They do not purchase goods, services, favourable editorial coverage, awards, nominations, decision-making authority or access to confidential information.
Where a payment includes a product, service, advertising placement or other benefit, that benefit and its conditions must be disclosed. Such a payment must not be represented as an unconditional gift.
Tax receipts
Unless a campaign expressly identifies a registered charity or other qualified donee authorised to issue official Canadian donation receipts, contributions to Hainica Magazine are voluntary support payments and are not offered as tax-deductible charitable gifts.
A payment acknowledgement or ordinary receipt is not an official charitable tax receipt. Registration as a non-profit organisation alone does not establish authority to issue charitable tax receipts.
Use of funds
General contributions may support editorial production, accessibility, hosting, distribution and administration. Campaign-specific contributions are handled according to the purpose and conditions disclosed before payment.
A restricted campaign must explain material costs or deductions, its intended beneficiary and what happens if the campaign cannot proceed. Restricted funds will not be redirected to a materially different purpose without appropriate authority, donor consent or a lawful alternative, including a refund where appropriate.
Recurring support
The contribution amount, currency, billing frequency and any applicable fees must be clear before payment. Recurring support requires an explicit choice and a stated cancellation method.
Cancellation stops future charges according to the disclosed processing schedule. It does not automatically refund completed contributions. A one-time contribution does not authorise recurring charges.
Errors and refund requests
For duplicate, mistaken or unauthorised transactions, contact ned@hainicamagazine.com promptly with the payment date, amount and transaction reference. Do not send full payment-card information by email.
We will investigate and arrange correction or refund where appropriate or legally required. Other requests are assessed against the campaign conditions, use of funds and applicable law. Contributions are not subject to a blanket waiver of legal rights.
Donor privacy
Donor information is used to process and reconcile contributions, respond to requests and meet applicable record-keeping obligations. A contribution does not automatically subscribe the donor to promotional communications.
Public acknowledgement of a donor’s name, contribution amount or testimonial requires permission. Anonymous public acknowledgement does not eliminate transaction records held by the recipient or payment provider.
2. Direct sales
Seller and scope
These conditions apply to purchases made directly from Hainica Magazine, operated by Ned Quintana, or another seller expressly identified at checkout.
Before payment, the direct seller must provide its legal identity, required contact information and business mailing address. Purchases completed through independent third-party stores are governed by that seller’s transaction conditions and applicable law.
Product information and pricing
Before an order is submitted, the offer must describe the product or service, format, quantity, currency, availability, total payable price, applicable taxes, delivery charges, fulfilment estimate and material restrictions.
Advertised prices must include mandatory fixed non-government charges. Variable shipping charges and applicable taxes must be clearly explained before the customer commits to payment. Customers must have an opportunity to review and correct their order details.
Order confirmation and payment
Customers receive a confirmation or receipt recording the purchase and applicable conditions. A payment acknowledgement is not necessarily acceptance of a custom commission unless the offer states otherwise.
If an order cannot be accepted or fulfilled, we will notify the customer and refund amounts due. Payments are processed through the method identified at checkout.
Physical products and delivery
Shipping methods, available destinations and delivery estimates must be disclosed before purchase. For delayed or missing deliveries, contact ned@hainicamagazine.com.
We will investigate and provide an appropriate remedy under the agreement and applicable law. Products that are damaged, defective, incorrect or materially different from their description are not excluded from remedies merely because they were opened.
Voluntary returns
For standard physical products sold directly by Hainica, a change-of-mind return may be requested within 30 days of delivery. Products must be unused and in resaleable condition. Contact us before arranging return shipping.
The customer bears reasonable return shipping costs for a change-of-mind return. Seller-error and defective-item remedies are handled separately. The treatment of original shipping charges must be disclosed before purchase.
Any different product-specific voluntary return policy must be clearly shown before payment. These conditions do not limit mandatory consumer rights.
Digital products
Digital listings must specify the file format, access method, compatibility requirements and licence. Purchasing a digital product does not transfer copyright or grant resale rights.
For missing access, corrupted files, duplicate charges or material discrepancies, contact us for assistance and an appropriate remedy. Restrictions on change-of-mind refunds after access or download must be disclosed before purchase and cannot override statutory rights.
Services and custom orders
A written scope must identify the deliverables, timetable, revisions, approval process, fees, payment milestones, cancellation conditions and ownership or licensing of the results.
Deposits are applied to the agreed work and are not automatically treated as non-refundable. Following cancellation, any amount retained must comply with the disclosed agreement and applicable law, with reasonable accounting for work performed and justified costs. Unearned amounts due to the customer will be refunded.
Subscriptions and pre-orders
Where offered, subscriptions and pre-orders must disclose the price, billing interval, renewal conditions, release estimate and cancellation method before payment.
Recurring billing requires explicit authorisation. Cancellation stops future billing according to the stated schedule. If a promised pre-order cannot be fulfilled, we will communicate available lawful options, including a refund where required or appropriate.
Refund processing
Approved refunds are normally returned through the original payment method where available. We will explain the amount and processing steps. Bank and payment-provider processing times may vary.
3. Editorial independence
Donations, purchases and sponsorships do not buy favourable reporting, suppress criticism or guarantee coverage, nominations or awards. Commercial arrangements must remain distinguishable from independent editorial decisions.
4. Privacy and transaction records
Personal information associated with donations and purchases is handled under Hainica Magazine’s Privacy & Cookies Policy. Payment providers may process information under their own privacy policies.
Transaction records may be retained for accounting, fulfilment, dispute resolution and applicable legal obligations.
5. Complaints and legal rights
Contact ned@hainicamagazine.com with your order or transaction reference and a description of the issue.
These conditions preserve applicable consumer cancellation, refund, warranty and dispute rights. They do not exclude obligations or remedies that cannot lawfully be limited.
6. Changes to this policy
Updates will be published with a revised date. Changes do not retroactively remove rights or alter completed transactions contrary to applicable law or the agreed transaction conditions.

Donor information associated with donations made through RickyKruger.ca is accessible only to that website’s operators and the people they expressly authorise to handle those donations.
